Working in the Family Law Counselling program as the Counsellor your goal will be to assist people with relationship difficulties and better manage their interpersonal and parental issues during or post separation.

Centrecare is a not-for-profit organisation committed to delivering quality professional counselling, support, accommodation, mediation and training services. We are currently looking for a Counsellor to join our Midland office. This role is primarily to provide counselling to family members who are experiencing separation or impacted by separating issues.
The Role
As the Family Law Counsellor you aim is to assist people with relationship difficulties and better manage their interpersonal and parental issues during or post separation. Clients of the FLC include family members with intact relationships, separated families, extended family members, individuals, children and young people, couples and significant others in relation to children, such as grandparents and kinship carers. FLC services provide a suite of activities including intake registration, screening and assessment, information / advice, referral, education and skills training, child focused groups, counselling, support and research / evaluation.
A Few Specifics
- Screening, assessments and support planning.
- Selecting and providing appropriate brief intervention supports for clients whether they be clients or carers.
- Assessing supports and ensuring that they are appropriate to meeting client’s needs.
- Deliver evidence-based counselling and group interventions
- Referring and assisting clients to access appropriate mainstream specialist services and support groups.
- Providing information and education to clients, carers, families and other service providers; and providing and/or arranging support for carers and families.
Selection Criteria
- Recognised qualifications in, Psychology, Social Work/Sciences, Mental Health, Counselling, Childhood Development and / or Family studies and related disciplines or equivalent.
- Demonstrated counselling experience in working with children and families with complex needs e.g., domestic violence, homelessness, abuse, schooling issues.
- Experience in case management and coordination of client services.
- Knowledge and experience working within Child Inclusive Practice frameworks is desirable.
- Must be able to work autonomously.
- Good computer literacy and accurate data entry skills.
- Strong professional boundaries
- Ability to work within a team and get along well with others.
- National Police Clearance
- Able to work from Monday to Friday with 2 evening shifts.
