COUNSELLOR
Care Leavers Australasia Network is a national independent, peak membership body which represents and advocates for people who were raised in Australian and New Zealand Orphanages, Children’s Homes, Missions and Foster Care.
Responsible for: Providing individual counselling both face to face and on the telephone to Care Leavers who may have complex needs and in particular clients with coexisting mental health issues. You will be required to carry out casework as well as to deliver counselling to Care Leavers families.
The role will also include completing National Redress Scheme Form applications, and liaising with necessary organisations.
Hours per week: Part-time (22.8hrs per week)
Location: Columbine Avenue, Bankstown.
Award: Paid in accordance with SCHCADS Award dependent upon qualifications and experience.
Salary Range: $49.65 per hour ($58,865.04 per annum) plus 10% superannuation and 17.5% leave loading. Two weeks’ notice is required when terminating employment. A three months’ probation applies from start of employment.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA- Tertiary Psychology or Counselling qualifications.
- Min. 2 years’ experience working in direct service provision in the community sector, preferably in a counselling role and preferably Care Leaver informed.
- Well-developed counselling skills – demonstrated ability to draw upon a range of therapeutic approaches including trauma-informed practice
- Understanding of the issues facing Care Leavers.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- An interest in social justice and working with elderly people.
Working as part of CLAN’s Team to provide counselling and casework for Care Leavers and their families with complex needs.
Providing intensive clinical work, developing long-term, trusting sustainable relationships with Care Leavers and their families, including providing holistic counselling and casework support. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to work with Care Leavers in an empathetic and compassionate manner.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES- Provide counselling to Care Leavers and their families with a range of issues. Provide referral, advocacy, information, and casework support services to these clients.
- Work in a highly responsive, proactive and innovative way and engage with all who use the service, with respect and empathy.
- Complete National Redress Applications, and support Care Leavers through this process. Training will be provided.
- Attend monthly supervision and weekly staff meetings.
- Perform outreach duties when necessary.
- Liaise with relevant networks, agencies, community members and government departments.
- Carry out any administrative or clerical tasks including upkeep of client files, assist with bimonthly mailouts, writing reports and support letters etc.
- Other duties as required by the CEO or Office Manager.

- Attend regular supervision.
