About your new job:
This dynamic and rewarding opportunity involves delivering specialised assistance to both adult and child survivors of Sexual Assault, as well as overseeing the operational functions of the 24/7 On-call Crisis Response Service within the Armidale Hospital Emergency Department. The role entails coordinating responses for individuals experiencing violence, abuse, and neglect, including offering medical forensic care and collaborating closely with healthcare professionals and external entities such as NSW Police and the Department of Communities and Justice.

As part of a job-share arrangement with another seasoned Sexual Assault Counsellor, you'll be based in a separate facility on the Armidale campus, adjacent to the main hospital. Additionally, other professionals dedicated to addressing violence and neglect, such as social workers and child protection counsellors, are situated onsite.
We seek candidates with the ability to deliver confidential and empathetic support to survivors of Sexual Assault, coupled with a commitment to their well-being. Applicants must possess a minimum of three years of postgraduate experience, as this role requires a high level of expertise. Recent graduates will not be considered.

  • Working from Armidale Hospital you will be supported through the Violence and neglect steam with comprehensive training provided for forensic procedures.
  • The service is a shared role with our psychologist who will be available to offer guidance and assistance during their working days.
  • Our fabulous counselling staff and crises response teamwork in collaboration to provide high quality service provision.

Essential:  

  • You must have at least 3 years of post-grad experience for this role. New graduates will not be considered for this high level role. You will have the experience and skills to provide confidential and compassionate service to victims of Sexual Assault.
  • Must hold as a minimum a bachelor’s degree in social work which provides eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer.
  • Applicants must be Female – Under Section 31 (2) (h) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
  • Eligibility to drive in NSW and willingness to travel between sites for work if required. 

Additional Information:

  • An eligibility list will be created for future permanent part time and temporary part time vacancies.  
  • To be eligible for permanent employment in this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or a permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport.
