Part-time opportunity - 3/4-day per week, with hybrid/flexible working arrangements
Hourly rates: $41.52 - $44.68 + Super + Salary packaging
Our sites are in Bankstown, Lewisham and Sydney City
About the Role
The Counsellor provides counselling to individuals, couples, families and children, to support clients to address issues which impact their wellbeing and their ability to maintain safe and enriching relationships. This is a designated “family counsellor” role under the Family Law Act. Some of your responsibilities will be:
Delivering clinical and support services to individuals, couples, families, adolescents and children. Services may be provided through therapeutic practice models including individual, couple or Family Counselling
To work independently and collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team for the purpose of case management and clinical support for clients. Work closely with other team members and managers to foster and maintain a supportive and constructive work environment. Working in accordance with relevant professional practice standards and maintaining professional currency in family law counselling, therapeutic training, and case management
Maintaining a focus on the safety and wellbeing of clients and their families, underpinned by a thorough understanding of child development, child protection, and individual and systemic issues including Domestic and Family Violence
Maintaining a thorough and up to date understanding of the relevant provisions of the Family Law Act (1975), the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act (1998) and other relevant legislation as it applies to Family Counsellors and operating with cognisance of the legislative provisions
We have a small, dedicated team of practitioners who work across multiple sites in Lewisham, Bankstown, and Sydney City. Some travel may be required.
About You
To be a successful candidate you will have:
Relevant tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology or counselling, and eligibility for membership with a relevant professional Board or Association and a minimum of 2 years’ experience in counselling
Demonstrated experience and skills in providing counselling services to individuals, couples, families, adolescents and children and a demonstrated ability in systemic practice and theory.
Demonstrated experience and skills in providing therapeutic interventions and counselling within a trauma informed practice model, assessing and responding to the impact of issues including separation, domestic and family violence, mental health, alcohol and other drugs, grief and loss, and child protection. Thorough knowledge of child development, Child Protection Legislation and the Family Law Act
High level of verbal and written communication skills, and competence in using client management systems and phone/online modes of service delivery
Demonstrated experience and skills in working with Cultural and Linguistically Diverse Communities and with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities
Desirable: demonstrated experience in psycho-educational group facilitation
