Your Role:
As the Farm / Cropping Manager, you will play a pivotal role in efficiently managing a portion of our client's 7,000ha development in northern Victoria. Focusing on managing the annual cropping activities of a 3,500ha cropping aggregation, consisting of both winter crops (wheat, barley, canola) and summer crops (corn), 400ha of which is irrigated including aspects of irrigation. Lead a seasoned team of 7, managing contracted winter seeding, harvesting, and windrowing.
Responsibilities:
- Lead farm staff, operations, planning, and procurement, contributing to the execution of annual cropping operations.
- Monitor and maintain on-farm resources and assets, including irrigation infrastructure, machinery, and shedding.
- Coach and lead staff on budgets, fostering their learning and development.
- Champion a safety culture across all farming operations, ensuring compliance with OHS requirements.
- Establish efficient communication channels with the General Manager, Orchard Manager, and Asset Manager.
This position evolves with the project, requiring expertise in team growth, planning, leadership, safety, and stakeholder engagement. Our ideal candidate will come with a strong track record in commercial broadacre farming operations and management, with proven skills in managing large cropping properties.
Criteria:
- Minimum 4 years' experience in farm operations and management.
- Proven experience in crop planning and a proactive approach to modern farming techniques.
- Knowledge of best practices for cropping (dry land & irrigated).
- Ability to instruct and guide staff on the use of new technology or procedures for improved efficiency.
- Financial acumen: budgets, reporting, forecasting, and procurement.
- Workforce planning and staff recruitment.
- Highly organised and flexible.
- Tertiary qualification(s) in agriculture or equivalent (preferred).
