The Mental Health Branch is responsible for developing, managing and coordinating NSW Ministry of Health policy, strategy and program funding relating to mental health.
The Perinatal Child and Youth (PCY) Mental Health team is part of the Mental Health Branch, NSW Ministry of Health. The team provides system management and leadership to NSW Health perinatal, child and youth and adult mental health services across NSW, and perinatal, child and youth mental health more broadly.
Staff of the PCY team are employed via Sydney Children's Hospitals Network. The team works collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders to promote the best use of available evidence, disseminate relevant data, information and resources and develop policies and plans to optimise the quality of mental health services for infants, children, young people and their families.
Primary purpose of the role
This position provides state-wide leadership in ensuring early access to the spectrum of mental health care, developing and enhancing systems to promote optimal care and recovery, and the facilitation of communication and integration of care across settings. This position oversees the Cross Program Integration team in the delivery of program coordination and service development that promotes improved inter-specialty and interagency collaboration and builds the evidence base for PCY priority initiatives. Ongoing collaboration and co-design of services with people with lived experience of mental health issues and caring is core to this program improvement.
The position specifically:
- Provides expert advice and assistance in policy and planning to the Director, PCY on the mental health needs of the perinatal parents, children, adolescents and young people of NSW and their families and kinship groups particularly in relation risk populations, early intervention approaches and collaborative interagency partnerships.
- Leads and manages relevant PCY staff in development and promotion of programs and initiatives that support access to developmentally appropriate and evidence based mental health support.
- Develops effective mechanisms for enhancing interdepartmental and cross-agency service delivery for high-risk populations and emerging areas of need through early identification, collaboration, and opportunities for improved partnership to meet shared goals.
- Works collaboratively with relevant partners to respond to the holistic needs of children, adolescents and young people and their families.
- Works to ensure programs and initiatives have appropriate evaluation and quality improvement mechanisms to reflect both outcomes and experience of care.
Please note that throughout the recruitment process you will be assessed with the following:
- Appropriate tertiary qualification in a health or related field and/or equivalent work experience at a senior level.
- Demonstrated successful high-level policy, planning, and risk management leadership in specialist mental health services and/or services for children, young people and families.
- Demonstrated successful strategic planning, policy and program development at a senior level inclusive of children, young people and families
- Demonstrated superior experience in leading complex and comprehensive initiatives/projects in mental health
- Demonstrated strengths in data analysis, research and evaluation.
- Demonstrated high-level negotiation and communication skills (written and verbal) with diverse audiences including health, other government departments and non- government organisations.
- Demonstrated senior level experience and expertise in change management.
