The Police Assistance Centre is a busy, 24hr x 7 days per week environment. The full time positions operate under shift work arrangements working 10 hours per day. The average number of days worked each week equates to four days, with Customer Service Operators within the Police Assistance Centre working a 12 week cyclic roster that has been designed with work life balance in mind to maximise rostered days off. The requirement to undertake shift work also attracts generous penalties in accordance with the Award conditions.
Initial training for this challenging and rewarding role takes eight to ten weeks (Monday to Friday). The training course is designed to complement and build on your existing skills to prepare you for a career making a substantial difference to the West Australian community managing calls received via Triple Zero (000) and 131444.
The State Communications Division primary location is Midland however, subject to operational requirements, these positions may be required to work from an alternate backup facility in Perth Metropolitan area.
This is a pool recruitment process (Ref 00973). This pool will run for a period of twelve (12) months and may be used to fill ongoing fixed term contracts, secondments, acting/relieving and permanent opportunities (full and part time).
There are currently multiple positions available, the WA Police Force intends to fill via this pool process.
POSITION OBJECTIVE
These positions contribute to the provision of an efficient and effective law enforcement Customer Service by responding to emergency and routine telephone calls from the community received via Triple Zero (000), 131 444 and other general Customer Service lines including security monitoring centres, Crime Stoppers, police stations and requests for assistance from St John Ambulance (WA), the Department of Fire and Emergency Services and local government authorities.
SPECIALIST PRE-REQUISITE
It is a requirement of this position that applicants undertake a psychological assessment to determine their suitability, and as an incumbent, agree to undergo periodical psychological assessments, as required.

Applicants are required to submit a comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV). Your CV should provide enough detail (dot points are sufficient) to allow the selection panel to assess your skills and experience relevant to the Key Accountabilities of the attached Position Description Form.
It is important to note that your CV should be tailored to clearly outline that you possess transferrable skills and experience relevant to the advertised role. Your ability to demonstrate this will be a key factor in determining whether you are competitive.
The CV must also include the names and contact details of two (2) referees who can comment on the applicant's ability to satisfy all of the Essential Work Related Requirements. Applicants should nominate at least one immediate (most contemporary) supervisor/manager unless exceptional circumstances exist.

Employee Screening
A thorough assessment centre has been scheduled for the selection process. During this phase, applicants will be expected to participate in the following evaluations at the assessment centre:
- Typing test
- Data retrieval test
- Literacy test
- Team work assessment
- Call handling assessment
Attendance at the Assessment centre in person is mandatory, as assessments cannot be completed via electronic conference. Upon the conclusion of the Assessment Centre, candidates deemed suitable will be invited to attend a Behavioural interview. During this interview, further assessment of Work Related Requirements, as outlined in the Position Description Form, will be conducted for the identified applicants.
OTHER CONDITIONS
In addition to the above mentioned vacancies, a POOL is being created to fill future vacancies that may arise within the metropolitan area. This POOL will remain active for a period of twelve (12) months from the initial appointment. Applicants who are assessed as 'suitable' at the completion of this process, will be placed in the POOL and may be considered for future permanent and temporary vacancies as they become available.
Once an applicant from the POOL accepts a permanent position via this selection process, that applicant will be removed from the POOL. Applicants who accept a temporary vacancy will remain in the POOL and will continue to be considered for permanent opportunities as they arise.
Where an applicant in the POOL declines an opportunity (either permanent or temporary), that applicant may forfeit their right to be considered before other suitable applicants who were identified to be less competitive.
Integrity and criminal checks will be conducted if the recommended applicant for a position is not a current WA Police Force employee. Any relocation costs associated with appointment to these positions may be the responsibility of the successful applicants.
