Data Analyst / Machine Learning Engineer

The role will support Empower's energy software solutions by performing data analysis of our fleet of solar & battery storage systems, prototyping optimisations, and investigating opportunities to improve our energy management strategy. Your actions will directly result in controlling thousands of residential battery systems to optimise energy usage on the grid, reducing consumers bills and saving the planet! The successful candidate will work closely with our software engineering team who have developed our technology platform from the ground up. 

Job Duties:

• Visualising and exploring data sets in Grafana 
• Developing, applying, and optimising quantitative models 
• Creating simulations, reports and analysis on potential optimisation of energy usage 
• Pioneering new optimisation strategies and rolling them out to test in the field 
• Deploying models and strategies to our production AWS environment, ensuring reliability and performance. 
• Supporting the management of our fleet of installed batteries 

Required Qualifications:

• Strong quantitative / analytical skills, 
• High level written communication skills 
• Strong organisation and planning skills 
• Confidence and resourcefulness in learning new technologies 
• Professional coding experience with proficiency in Python
• Proficiency with Machine Learning frameworks and related libraries such as pandas, scikit-learn 
• Proficiency with data and ML lifecycle including pre-processing, feature engineering and model evaluation 
• Experience in implementing advanced analytics and Machine Learning solutions in a cloud environment, with knowledge of related AWS services highly desirable  
• Time-series data analysis and knowledge of query languages (such as SQL, AWS Timestream, InfluxDB, advanced MS Excel) 
• Previous experience of market forecasting within the energy sector would be highly regarded 
• University degree in STEM fields such as Engineering, Computer Science, or Mathematics ideally with an interest in renewable energy
