The new Building Commission NSW has been established after the NSW Government recognised the substantial progress made by Fair Trading and the Office of the Building Commissioner in delivering once-in-a-generation reforms of the building and construction industry. The new commission will not only be the industry regulator, but also a collaborator with consumers and industry to ensure standards, capabilities, capacity, and resilience continue to be lifted across the sector to deliver quality homes and meet the state's housing targets.

About the team - Advanced Analytics
The Advanced Analytics team manages some of Australia's largest data assets, providing valuable insights and support to our highly skilled intelligence analysts. Our team is at the forefront of data analytics-led risk-based regulation, using cutting-edge techniques and technologies to extract meaningful information from vast amounts of data.

Responsibilities include:
- Data Pipeline Development: Automate the ingestion and processing of data from diverse sources, ensuring reliable data flow into the system for analysis.
- Data Integration: Link and harmonise data from multiple sources, creating a cohesive data ecosystem that supports comprehensive analytics and insights.
- Data Preparation and Quality Assurance: Cleanse, structure, and enrich datasets to meet analysts' quality standards, focusing on accuracy and usability for analysis.
- Data Security and Compliance: Implement protocols to ensure data privacy and compliance with regulatory standards, maintaining data integrity.
- Performance Optimisation: Monitor and enhance the efficiency of data processing tasks, reducing bottlenecks, and ensuring timely availability of data for analytics projects.
Key challenges
- Data Quality and Consistency: Ensuring the data is clean, consistent, and reliable for analysis can be complex, especially when integrating from multiple, often disparate, sources.
- Scalability and Performance: Designing systems that can scale efficiently with growing data volumes and maintaining high performance under varying loads pose significant challenges.
- Keeping Up with Technological Advances: The rapid pace of change in data technologies requires continuous learning and adaptation to new tools and methodologies.
- Data Security and Regulatory Compliance: Balancing the accessibility of data for analysis while ensuring strict adherence to data protection laws and regulations is a critical and ongoing challenge.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Strong Expertise in SQL: Proficiency in SQL is essential for querying, manipulating, and managing data across various database systems.
- Foundational Knowledge in Data Modeling: Experience or a strong understanding of data modeling principles is preferred, including the ability to design and implement efficient data structures.
- Familiarity with Data Integration Tools: Knowledge of tools and technologies for data integration, such as ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, to effectively merge data from multiple sources.
- Analytical Skills: The ability to analyze data sets to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement, supporting data-driven decision-making.
- Adaptability and Eagerness to Learn: The field is fast-evolving, so an eagerness to stay updated with the latest data technologies and methodologies is crucial for long-term success.

Salary Clerk Grade 7/8, with the base salary for this role starting at $106,025 base plus superannuation
