To put it simply we want our people to thrive and love the work they do.About the JobRest is embarking on a journey to uplift our Data capability within our investments business. This is beginning with a project to build out an internal Data Platform that can serve a variety of needs and Use Cases for our business.The Data Engineer is a key role within this newly formed Investments Data Team. You will be an integral part of a highly performing collaborative team that will transform the way our Investments Function undertakes reporting, insights and analysis. You will have the benefit of working with an established team and platform whilst at the same time the freedom to build a new capability for the Investments Function.An integral part of this role is the development and of robust data pipelines and supporting datasets to serve the needs of this business area. You will have the support of a highly experienced data architecture team but the freedom to work autonomously and bring your experience in modelling and crafting a new analytics repository to the business.Key Accountabilities/ Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines using on-premises and cloud-based data platforms using Snowflake, Talend, DBT, GitLab, AWS S3 and Redshift
  • Manage and maintain Investment team's Snowflake environments including providing support to BAU teams, monitor and troubleshoot any issues related to data issues, performance, working proactively to mitigate risks.
  • Collaborating with the Product Owners, Data Architect and Power BI Developers to design appropriate data integration patterns, data marts and modelling techniques.
  • Migration and transformation of large, complex datasets from diverse sources, structures, and formats, to support analysis and unlock actionable insights.
  • Ensure high data quality and integrity within investment datasets (IBOR, ABOR, PBOR, etc.), employing best practices in data governance and compliance.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on investments data, providing guidance and support to various stakeholders.
  • Maintaining high quality Data Engineering and coding standards.
  • Managing the production platform and addressing issues as they occur.
  • Working with Head of Investments IT and relevant project lead to prioritise and plan workloads.
  • Participate in strategic initiatives to advance the firm's data capabilities and contribute to innovation.

About You:
  • 5-10 years' experience in a similar Data Engineering role.
  • Proven experience as a Data Engineer with hands-on expertise in Snowflake, Talend, DBT, AWS S3, AWS Redshift, and visualization tools like Power BI.
  • Skilled in SQL and familiarity with programming/scripting languages such as Python, VBA or Java
  • Experience with these technologies are nice to have: MS Power Platform (Power Apps) and Atlan
  • Deep knowledge of ETL/ELT design, data modelling, and data warehousing principles.
  • Experience with source control tools like Git and CI/CD practices.
  • Prior experience in a run and delivery-focused environment, with a track record of meeting delivery commitments.
  • Good understanding and appreciation of data management and data governance best practices
  • A strong analytical thinker and problem solver with a can-do attitude.
  • Knowledgeable in relational and big data architectures, data warehousing, data integration, data modelling, data optimisation and data analysis techniques.
  • Good understanding of investment data, financial markets, and investment strategies
  • A passion for technology, improving processes and implementing a different way of working.
  • Interested in Advanced Analytics, AI, ML and LLMs in datawarehousing.
  • Experience in the superannuation or asset management space is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Experience working in an agile environment is preferred but not mandatory.
