Your Opportunity


We're looking for a Data Governance and Compliance Specialistto join our Information Management team to work across the business on sound governance for our business functions data. As the Data Governance and Compliance Specialist, you'll play a crucial role in managing and safeguarding our data, through the implementation and maintenance of data policies and standards for Mott MacDonald, by defining Data Governance policies and processes in collaboration with business function teams and users as well as the Group Privacy and Data Protection Team and wider business data teams in regions. Establishing and monitoring Data Governance metrics and creating and documenting clear definitions, rules, and data quality KPIs for data elements.

This role can be based in Adeladie, Melbourne and Sydney, and the additional scope of your role includes:

Data quality assurance:

  • Ensuring the completion and validity of personal information risk assessments and other governance documentation relevant to our technical product catalogue.
  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining data standards, policies, and procedures to ensure data consistency across systems (including data retention schedules).
  • Regularly audit and ensure the cleansing and validation of data to maintain its accuracy and reliability.

Compliance and security:

  • Working closely with the IT, information security and privacy and data protection teams to safeguard data against unauthorised access and potential data breaches, in accordance with ISO 27001, internal processes and procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with privacy and data protection laws, company policies, and industry standards.
  • Owning internal and external audit actions that impact business function data and monitoring and reporting on the effectiveness of data security measures.

Stakeholder collaboration:

  • Collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders to align data management strategies with business objectives. Providing expertise and guidance on data-related matters to business function teams and other stakeholders.
  • Participating in cross-functional projects, ensuring that data management best practices are upheld.
  • Identifying and liaising with systems team to resolve data quality issues and conflicts.

Training and support:

  • Guiding team members and other users on proper data entry, management, and retrieval techniques within our systems, and offering ongoing support and troubleshooting for data-related issues.
  • Staying abreast of the latest trends and developments in data management and technologies, recommending improvements as necessary.


About you


With your specialist knowledge and exceptional interpersonal skills, you demonstrate relevant industry experience working in a Data Governance environment and delivering solutions. You have a passion for researching and identifying new and emerging privacy laws and industry standards. Your style is being collaborative, and proactive, building relationships with employees at all levels, and enjoy problem solving, and taking pride in delivering a quality service.


Holding a relevant bachelor's degree is essential, though having advanced degrees or certifications in information management, Data Governance, or related areas will be highly desirable. Ideally, you'll have experience with SAP, including one of the following systems; ServiceNow, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and Exchange Online. We also welcome applications from those with a blend of data science and engineering.
