As the Data Governance Engineer you will be a part of our Infrastructure team. The Data Governance Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day execution and management of Data Governance practices to ensure the firm's data assets are well-managed, secure and compliant with relevant regulations.
This role can be based in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane.
As a Data Governance Engineer you will:
- Support enterprise tooling solutions to implement and enforce Data Governance practices.
- Maintain best practices on technology systems – including group policy management and data retention policies.
- Research and recommend new technologies, propose new efficiencies and be mindful of cost effectiveness.
- Implement data classification schemes to identify sensitivity levels, handling and access controls for data assets.
- Work with the security team to ensure data encryption, masking, and access management.
- Perform periodic data security assessments and address potential vulnerabilities.
- Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to establish Data Governance policies and procedures.
- Monitor adherence to Data Governance policies and report compliance.
- Assist system owners with the development and implementation of data retention policies and procedures in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Manage key relationships by building a professional reputation with data owners to implement and enforce Data Governance practices.
About you
You will have:
- Experience in a large corporate environment preferred.
- Minimum of five years with large-scale data management experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion;
- Proven capability to work diligently with meticulous attention to detail and minimal supervision;
- Ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse, multi-disciplinary team
- Strong understanding of data management best practices and industry standards.
- Familiarity with data privacy regulations and compliance standards.
- Proven experience in Data Governance, classification, loss prevention and retention.
- Proficiency in Data Governance, analysis and visualisation tools.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Purview suite preferred.
- Attention to detail and a strong commitment to maintaining data integrity.
- Industry qualifications such as relevant Microsoft Azure or M365 certifications will be highly regarded
