Bluefin Resources has partnered with a prestigious federal government enterprise to seek an experienced Data Modeller for an initial 12 month contract with further extensions. This role is pivotal as it involves contributing to transformation of the organisations data strategy.
Position Purpose
- The Data Modeler will lead and perform Enterprise Data Modelling Activity. This includes Conceptual, Logical as well as Physical Data Models for EDW Core and Access Layers.
- Provide thought Leadership in Data Modelling, and Physical Design of Core and Access Layers
- Lead Data Modelling Activity for multiple Initiatives.
- Data Dictionary Management
The role will focus on collaborating with key business areas in the development and implementation of consumable reports and analytics to address key risks and emerging trends within these areas.
Key Responsibilities
Data Delivery
- Set peer review and data modelling release standards.
- Provide knowledge transfer sessions on best practices on development, data modelling, release process etc.
- Own the technical implementation of new data from analysis to delivery (designing and delivering data dictionary, defining the release steps, defining best practices of data modelling and review steps).
- Facilitate continuous improvement measures in delivery principles, coding standards, documentation and provide training sessions to team.
- Prioritise work items and add them to a work queue.
- Understand, analyse and size user requirements;
- Development and maintenance of SQL analytical and ETL code;
- Development and maintenance of system documentation;
- Collaboration with data consumers, database development, testers and IT support teams;
Key Deliverables
This role will work within the Data Services team, and will be contribute to delivery of:
- Work items placed into a product backlog
- Consumption layer materials, per specification
- Efficient code produced
Key Skills
- Technical leadership/ data governance
- Data modelling and peer review
- Expertise in SQL;
- Knowledge of metadata/model driven frameworks
- Experience working in an Agile environment;
- Experience reverse engineering end user SQL code;
Key Accountabilities
The Data Modeller is accountable for producing efficient, high-quality code for tasks assigned to them by the development lead.
Other Duties
Data Architecture
- Contribute to the design development specifications to inform the creation of consumption layer materials.
- Provide input to ensure updated Information Model is available and understood by relevant stakeholders.
- Create standards for data modelling and peer review new designs
Curate and Govern Data
- Identify areas where data standards are not being met.
Test
- Ensure that consumption layer materials are at test standard.
Data Insights
- Aggregate relevant consumable material, products and data for analysis.
Technical Competencies
The Data Modeller should have demonstrable experience in similar roles, and is expected to have level of competency:
- MS SQL / Teradata /Snowflake / Redshift / Databricks - Demonstrated competency in developing, auditing and reviewing code in 2 out of the 5 DW listed
- SAS (Base, EG) or SQL (essential) or Python, R or Java (preferred)
- DevOps - Ability to understand DevOps process and can use DevOps tools in accordance with the process
- Exposure to AWS Cloud, AWS S3, AWS Glue or similar tools within the cloud environment
- Programming - High level of competency in Programming, including knowledge of supplementary programming languages such as Python
- Version control - Ability to demonstrate knowledge of version controls and its appropriate uses
- Excel - Competency with required systems, software and programs, including SAS and Excel
- Other - Ability to read and interpret data models and specifications
- Tertiary qualifications in mathematics, statistical, computer sciences discipline or more than three years relevant work experience.
