Data Scientist (Contract) Job Category Engineering & Information Technology Location Melbourne, Victoria Job Type Part-time, Fixed-term About Biolink Biolink exists to digitally control biology and enhance our abilities. Our goal is to develop a real-time digital interface for any biological system, programming protein synthesis using digital technologies. Fundamental to achieving this vision is the ability to continuously monitor biological systems through the development of high-fidelity biosensors to merge technology with biology. The Role We are looking for an expert Data Scientist to join our team to consult and kick-start the development of key features in new Biolink products. The duration of the fixed-term contract will be tailored following discussions with each candidate. This position holds the possibility of transitioning into a permanent role upon the conclusion of the contract term. You will join our product development efforts and work closely with our team that includes business managers, scientists, designers, and software developers. Leveraging your expertise, you'll spearhead the integration of advanced AI capabilities into our latest products. As the inaugural Data Scietist on our team, you will be tasked with laying the foundation for a specialised engineering unit that will grow in tandem with our developmental milestones and strategic objectives. Role Requirements Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field. Two or more years of relevant and demonstrable experience. Strong programming skills in Python, Scala, or Java, with experience in data manipulation and analysis libraries (e.g., pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn). Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) and database systems (e.g., SQL, NoSQL). Knowledge of data modelling, data warehousing, and building ETL pipelines. Familiarity with cloud computing services and their data-related offerings. We primarily use AWS. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Strong skills in computational thinking, especially the ability to interpret text and convert numerical relationships into algorithms.
