THE ROLE
Join our dynamic team as a Database Administrator and play a key role in planning, delivering, and supporting our database management systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Have a crucial hands-on role in building, maintaining, and optimising the DataMesh MS SQL server instances on the cloud (Azure, AWS),
- Design, install and configure database systems,
- Implement new database solutions and associated objects,
- Develop and support customised database productivity tools and utilities to meet organisational objectives,
- Evaluate and plan for database capacity requirements, making recommendations for scalable solutions,
- Develop and implement database recovery and HA strategies to minimise downtime,
- Implement and maintain database security measures, including data security, system access and user permission,
- Manage all database environments, including for production, testing and development, to support customer expectations and achieve client SLAs,
- Implement and audit database security in line with PCI DSS requirements
- Monitor and tune database performance to ensure optimal functionality,
- Manage patching and upgrades,
- Collaborate with development teams to optimize database queries and schema designs,
- Support and maintain a data lake and associated analytical capabilities,
- Support problem management by suggesting efficient and potentially innovative solutions,
- Support incident resolution should database systems not behave as expected,
- Prevent operational issues by supporting capacity planning for databases, and
- Perform regular backup and recovery activities.
REQUIREMENTS
- 5 years+ hands-on experience in MS-SQL; certification in managing MS SQL server is an adv.
- Demonstrated experience managing large relational databases for business-critical systems in a cloud environment,
- Experience in database security, implementing robust backup and recovery systems, overseeing monitoring processes, and optimising performance, particularly in cloud environments such as Azure and AWS.
- Experience with scripting for the development and support of database tools and utilities,
- Experience in designing and managing maintenance plans,
- Proficiency in performance tuning and optimisation techniques, and
- Experience with all major operating systems,
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
