Owned and run by the Hemmes family for over 60 years, Merivale began as an iconic fashion house started by John and Merivale Hemmes. Merivale’s fashionable beginnings were soon followed by a venture into hospitality, opening a Thai tea café within their Sydney CBD fashion building in 1970. From here, Merivale’s hospitality roots were firmly planted.
Merivale is now led by CEO Justin Hemmes, whose creativity and knack for pushing the boundaries has made Merivale what it is today. Hemmes has become a pioneer within the Australian hospitality industry, growing the ever-expanding Merivale portfolio to over 70 brands and venues.
The Venue
Sitting right on the water at Manly Wharf, Queen Chow Manly rivals the best neighborhood Cantonese restaurant in Hong Kong. The setting is elegant, yet relaxed, and you’ll feel immediately at home. Simple, well-executed dishes are the backbone of the menu. Showcasing the finest produce around, the extensive selection includes roast duck, Peking beef, sweet’n’sour pork and Australia’s best seafood. Oh, and salt’n’pepper everything.
As a special touch for Manly – the quintessential Australian beach location – we have included dishes that pay tribute to the local Chinese/Australian restaurants of the past.
The Role
We are on the hunt for a passionate and dedicated Demi Chef to join the team. You will work closely with the senior kitchen team to drive quality and consistency in the kitchen. We are looking for someone who is passionate about Asian cuisine and cooking techniques and who can work in a fast-paced environment.
To be successful in this role you must:
- Have 1 to 2 years' experience in a restaurant or high-end venue.
- Be adaptable, organized and have a keen eye for detail.
- Experience of the wok and fryer sections
- Passionate and experienced with Asian cuisine
- Happy to commute to Manly, the restaurant is currently open from Wednesday through Sunday
