We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our Marine team as a Deputy Harbour Master on a full-time permanent basis. The Deputy Harbour Master position is a residential role based in Geraldton, which offers a rich mix of regional and suburban city lifestyle, along the scenic Batavia Coast.

About the Role
Reporting to and assisting the Harbour Master, this shore-based marine role plays a pivotal part in the conduct of safe and efficient port operations. The Deputy Harbour Master will maintain oversight over the key elements of marine operation such as Pilotage, Towage, Vessel Information service, Navigation aids, Maintenance Dredging, Port Security, Emergency Response, etc. This role will be integral in delivering MWPA’s growth mandate of 28 million tonnes throughput by year 2027 sustainably.
The role must be able to coordinate with internal and external stakeholders but also work with a degree of autonomy. Whilst the role works standard business hours Monday to Friday, occasional work may be required outside of business hours and on the weekend as operations require.
Key Accountabilities
Key responsibilities and experience:
- Master Mariner – Class 1 (current or expired) or equivalent
- Demonstrated success in a similar role within a port environment;
- Knowledge of, and proven ability to manage port operations including pilotage, towage, vessel information service;
- Demonstrated experience in incident investigation and root cause analysis;
- Demonstrated experience in vessel vetting / marine quality assurance;
- Be conversant with relevant International, national and state regulations;
- Demonstrated experience in managing marine emergency situations;
- Experienced in managing marine projects and contractors;
- Ability to implement relevant marine legislation through port standards and procedures;
- Time management skills with ability to manage concurrent priorities in a fast-paced environment;
- Ability to build strong professional relationships across a multi-faceted organisation; and
- Good computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and database systems.
