The Y WA (formally YMCA) is a branch of the global Y not-for-profit organisation, formed in 1844 and have been contributing to our local Australian communities since 1851. We believe in the power of inspired young people, delivering education, health & wellbeing, childcare, youth services, and community programs to thousands of Australians every day. We’re looking for a Deputy Principal to lead their own campus at The Y School in Mirrabooka, (Perth, WA).
Your Impact:
At The Y School, we aim to uphold the Y’s values of Respect, Honesty, Responsibility & Caring through providing high-quality educational experiences for all of our students. As a CARE (Curriculum & Re-Engagement) School, we are focussed on working with students at their point of need, dedicating time, energy, and expertise to formulating strong Individual Education Plans. We develop rapport with students in order to assist them in building towards further education or employment, through options such as WACE pathways, School-Based Traineeships and university bridging courses. Our main focus is to assist students to re-engage with education, supporting them to dismantle the barriers and create a chance to flourish.
As Deputy Principal you’ll lead the implementation of the ‘Y School Strategy’ on the current Mirrabooka Campus, providing a consistent approach for curriculum delivery for students in Years 10 – 12. The ‘Y Education Model’ will be your guide to maintaining a high quality of service delivery specifically focussing on supporting students who are at risk of disengaging with education. You’ll lead a dynamic and innovative team of Teachers, Youth Workers, School Counsellors, and administrative support. At times you’ll be hands-on, providing academic and mental health/wellbeing support for students and lead your team in the development and implementation of academic and support programs. You’ll be great in this role if you…
- Have a Current Teacher Registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA)
- Hold a Tertiary qualification in Education or Teaching that is recognised in Western Australia
- Have Post Graduate qualification/s in Education Leadership / Business Management (highly regarded but not essential)
- Have experience in successful strategic leadership in an educational setting
- Seek to maintain a status of Highly Accomplished or Lead in the AITSL standards and fully understand their application in daily practice
- Have knowledge regarding school funding models, budgeting and legislative requirements (CARE School knowledge is desirable but not essential)
- Have knowledge and experience of Explicit Teaching techniques
- Can obtain a current National Police Check and hold a current Working with Children Check
- Are seeking to work for a WA based NFP making a real difference to student’s lives by demonstrating real wraparound service provision with unwavering focus and commitment to safeguarding our Young People
