Meekatharra District High School (DHS) is seeking a dedicated and passionate Deputy Principal to join their Leadership team.

Teachers and school administrators employed at Meekatharra District High School in 2024 are eligible to receive an Attraction and Retention Incentive of $17,000 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.  

The ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply in this school. 

The successful applicant will be motivated, hardworking, and a highly effective leader with outstanding interpersonal skills who can work effectively in a collaborative team structure.

They will work with staff to incorporate strategic intent into operational plans which maximise student engagement, motivation and achievement. A small classroom teaching role will be required of the Deputy Principal.

In collaboration with the Principal, the Deputy Principal will provide educational leadership in the school and the community by developing and promoting the school values, ethos and priorities, and encouraging students, staff, parent’s community members and others to share ownership of the school’s vision and goals; ' At Meekatharra DHS we have high expectations to become lifelong learners, show respect for culture, ourselves and others, and strive for a strong future.'

The successful applicant will ideally have exceptional knowledge, skills and experience in being able to lead and compliment the pedagogical direction of our school. This is inclusive of understanding and having experience with instructional coaching to support teacher efficacy to continue to promote a culture of professional growth with all staff in the school.

The successful applicant will display an ability to lead collaborative teams through evidence-based improvement processes to ensure achievement and work closely with teachers in class or in a support capacity to assist with individual education goals.

The successful applicant will ideally be required to lead and manage some of the below key areas:

  • Whole school approach to lesson design, curriculum and methodologies including Explicit Direct Instruction and Daily Reviews.
  • Lead professional learning for staff.
  • Coaching and mentoring of staff.
  • Teaching for Impact.
  • Performance development of staff.
  • Data analysis as the basis for evidence-based decision making.
  • Establish a strong, culturally responsive rapport with students and families.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements

 Employees will be required to:

  • Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
  • Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment.
  • Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
  • Meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration
  • Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
  • Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
  • Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.
  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
