Are you an inspiring leader and change agent who challenges the status quo where necessary and places the best interests of all students at the forefront of what you do?

Would you like the opportunity to influence and support the learning outcomes for students across Western Australia through our blended learning approach?

If you answered yes to these questions, this could be the role for you!

The School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) is seeking a dynamic, culturally responsive, dedicated, strategic thinking Deputy Principal (Secondary) to join our Senior Leadership Team. Our community values leaders who are driven by the moral imperative to make a difference to students no matter where they live or their circumstance.

As an experienced high performing leader, you should work collaboratively with the principal, the leadership team, teachers, students and their families, our partner schools and external agencies, demonstrating high level strategic planning skills.

You should have experience in leading and implementing high quality culturally responsive teaching, learning and assessment programs, and have the courage and resilience to drive the strategic vision of the school. In this role, you will focus on student wellbeing and outcomes. You will ideally build staff capabilities in identifying relevant student achievement data to inform the review, planning and improvement cycle for SIDE’s student cohorts as part of our culture of development and feedback.

We are seeking a team member with outstanding interpersonal skills so relational based approaches should be at the core of your professional practice. Your emotional intelligence, flexibility, and capacity to collaborate should enable you to build effective and meaningful relationships with all SIDE partners and community members, to improve opportunities for all our students. This will ideally include embracing opportunities to co-design culturally appropriate teaching and learning programs and pathways for students in regional and remote schools and communities.

SIDE provides education for Kindergarten to Year 12 students, who may be based at another school, travelling, home-based in a remote location or region, living overseas or referred to SIDE due to special circumstances that impact on school attendance/engagement. Teaching and learning is conducted through a blended model of online synchronous and asynchronous instruction, and access to print content.

It is highly desirable that the Deputy Principal enthusiastically embraces the pedagogies associated with blended learning and will have the ability to quickly adapt and broaden their capacity to lead innovative approaches. Therefore, highly effective information and communication technologies skills are an asset in this position.

All teaching staff and members of the Leadership team are expected to participate in our regional travel program to meet the needs of students and partner schools. Visits are planned in negotiation with staff, and at times may include short-term stays in regional and remote locations.

SIDE has a main campus in Leederville and teaching facilities at Canning College, Clarkson Community High School and Northlake Senior Campus. You may be required to work at any one of these locations or future venues.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment.
