Advertised Vacancy Number IPS/DP885707

Join a dedicated and dynamic team and help make a difference to our School Community

Newton Moore Education Support Centre is seeking to establish a pool of Deputy Principals for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year and up to the end of Term 1, 2025.  Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year, up to the end of Term 1, 2025.

Are you a passioned, motivated and team oriented educational leader with a passion for supporting students with special educational needs?

We are looking for applicants who are passionate about Education Support. You will need to have a deep understanding of disability, student behaviour and the complexities these entail alongside a ‘tool box’ for supporting these complexities.

Suitable applicants will ideally hold qualifications or have relevant experience in teaching students with special needs. They will need to have a deep understanding of the functions of student behaviour in the context of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disability and trauma backgrounds. The ability to be a great communicator and be able to build strong positive relationships with students and families under difficult circumstances is highly regarded. Suitable applicants should also be able to provide advice and support to teachers in developing, implementing and evaluating suitable interventions for students presenting with complex issues, in line with the school’s positive behaviour approach.

We are looking for applicants with preferable skills/experience in:

  • Understanding and supporting positive behaviours in students with a disability and having leadership in developing colleagues to implement evidence based strategies for improvement.
  • PBS knowledge and implementation across a school setting;
  • Planning, implementing and communicating effective whole school processes;
  • The ability to cope well with frequent unpredictability. As our students have a range of special needs and as such, our approach and thinking must be flexible;
  • A deep understanding of the true meaning of a student centred school.

Newton Moore ESC is an Independent Public School catering to 80 students from year 7 – 13, nestled in the thriving and idyllic coastal City of Bunbury, WA, 180km south of Perth.  From the proven success of our innovative programs to the passionate engagement, professionalism and commitment of our teachers and education assistants who deliver rewarding educational and life skills to our students, Newton Moore ESC is quite simply ‘Dynamic & Different’. Those two words would be a concise yet accurate description of the type of Deputy Principal best suited to our school.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Applications will be assessed against the work related requirements of the position. The business needs of the school may also be considered. It is therefore recommended that you consider all information contained in the advertisement and any other related information before applying for the vacancy.

The Department is an equal opportunity employer and encourages people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and persons from culturally diverse backgrounds to apply.
