The Energy, Climate Change and Sustainability Group delivers the NSW Government's strategic policy, programs and some regulatory functions for the energy, Climate Change and environmental sustainability portfolios.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will be passionate about delivering a sustainable future to the State of NSW. You'll have significant experience and expertise in the energy sector, and/or Climate Change and sustainability and have deep knowledge of the role of governments in driving outcomes across these areas. In addition to having strong technical capabilities, you will be an effective people leader who is always looking at opportunities to drive and enhance performance as well as identifying efficiencies to deliver positive business outcomes.

The Role

The Deputy Secretary leads and directs delivery of strategic policy and programs across energy, Climate Change and sustainability on behalf of the NSW Government, including the NSW Electricity Strategy, Net Zero Plan, Electricity Industry Roadmap and a substantial portfolio of programs and services to drive the State's sustainable transition to a thriving, climate resilient, and net zero emissions economy, powered by affordable, reliable and clean energy.

The role represents the State of the NSW and advises the Minister for Climate Change and Minister for Energy in national Cabinet and committees to achieve collaborative outcomes that have enduring economy-wide impact across the jurisdictions.

The role is also responsible for ensuring effective management and coordination of energy security of supply in emergency situations.

Essential Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and/or equivalent experience in the energy and/or Climate Change sector.
