Westgate Community Initiatives Group Ltd. (WCIG) is an established, not for profit organisation that is committed to creating practical responses to unemployment and disadvantage across Melbourne and Geelong. Our mission is to empower people to achieve a meaningful role in society.

Our Disability Employment Services (DES) program provides tailored employment and education support to assist people in overcoming barriers to employment (such as illness, injury, or disability) to prepare for, find and maintain employment. Our DES team works towards the same, purpose-led goal of improving lives through dignity and choice. 

The result of this mindset speaks for itself: due to program growth, we have multiple newly created opportunities for Employment Consultants and Post Placement Consultants to join our DES team on a permanent full-time basis. Positions are available at our offices in Moorabbin, Dandenong, Narre Warren, Cranbourne, Pakenham, Frankston, Hastings, Mornington and Rosebud. Prior experience in a similar role will be highly regarded but is not essential.

Employment Consultant Role:

  • Work closely with your caseload to develop their skills and become job ready by providing flexible and tailored assistance, including pre-employment and vocational support
  • Liaise with employers to generate new employment leads
  • Identify and address any non-vocational barriers to employment jobseekers may have and alleviate them through collaboration with support services
  • Provide support and mentoring around job search activities, and career guidance
  • Your driven nature will ensure you meet and exceed your targets by placing participants into employment
  • Actively source employment opportunities from employer networks and advocate for your job seekers
  • Ensure services delivered are compliant with contractual requirements and other relevant legislation

Post Placement Support Consultant Role:

  • Provide ongoing post-employment and education support to both the employer and participant to maintain the site’s placements
  • Identify potential fall outs from employment and promptly implement strategies to support the participant 
  • Maintain and  submit accurate records and collate information, such as payslips, invoices, and wage subsidies in a timely manner
  • Escalate at-risk outcomes and wage subsidies to the Site Manager and DES Manager immediately
  • Build and maintain employer relationships to increase engagement and retention rates, while also securing extra business through lead generation
  • Ability to adhere to strict compliance frameworks and contractual reporting requirements

About you:

  • Prior experience in employment services is preferred but NOT essential – if you have the right attitude, we can teach everything else!
  • Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds is preferred, as you will be working with people facing various barriers to employment to overcome any workplace challenges
  • Prior experience in case management/business development will be highly regarded
  • Demonstrated ability to meet and exceed KPIs
  • Willing to learn and highly flexible and adaptable in a changing environment
  • Passionate about helping people and making a difference in the community
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues that affect job seeker engagement with education and employment
