What will you do?
With continued growth at Target we have an exciting opportunity for two experienced Design Assistants to join our apparel team in kidswear and womenswear . As the Design Assistant your primary responsibility is to work collaboratively with the designer and design team to assist with day to day roles & responsibilities.
This role supports the designers to focus on driving the handwriting, taste levels and product desirability of the department to exceed customer expectations and grow incremental sales.
Responsibilities include, but not limited:
General Design Support
• Liaise with suppliers on all aspects of product development to ensure on-time delivery and quality standards.
• Follow up and assist with approvals and sample submissions from suppliers.
• Attend all fittings with Designer,creation on ongoing processes.
• Collaborate with multiple stakeholders.
• Work closely with the design team to develop new and exciting styles for the range.
• Communicate regularly on any production issues / shortfalls throughout all stages of the process,
ensuring we are minimising any impact to the critical path.
• Supporting the overall end to end function of the design team.
Trends
• Contribute to trend research.
• Collating / pulling together trend boards.
• Assist with designer all trend related activities and tasks ie Colour palettes, samples.
Ranging
• Support the Designer with range board creation and upkeep.
• Assisting with range board release to suppliers.
• Supporting design in range sign off's & preparing samples and relevant items for ranging and development.
• Work with designer to coordinate the sourcing of fabrics and trims in line with the design brief.
• Supplier Management for all design samples and chasing samples for Range sign off.
• Ongoing update management to option plan.
Technical
• Support with technical drawings and must be proficient in Adobe illustrator and CAD
• Assist with style briefs, tech packs & creative briefs.
• Liaise with the designer to receive and comment on fabric qualities, lab dips, prints, trims etc within
the required production time allocated for the approval process.
• Support Designer on providing feedback on strike-offs, lab dips, trims and design samples.
• Assisting & creating, maintaining and documentation of product development lifecycle and PLM system.
What are we looking for?
The ideal candidates will have a tertiary qualification in Tertiary Design Degree or Diploma with at least 2+ years’ experience in Graphic Design, Surface Pattern, Illustration Design or similar, in a specialty retail environment.
You will have the following knowledge, skills and qualifications:
- Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop,CAD and LAB dips including Microsoft Suite.
- Ability to complete tech packs and creating accurate technical specification drawings
- Knowledge of construction and technical skills related to the area of product development.
- Understanding Critical Path and work to milestones.
- Creative and exceptional eye for design and detail
- Ability to work in a fast paced, changing environment
