About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Design Coordinator to join our SEQ Assets Fleet Management team in Brisbane.
In this role reporting to the Principle Mechanical Engineer, you will be primarily responsible for providing technical and engineering drawings and designs for rolling stock and associated sub-systems.
The function of the design team is to evaluate existing rolling stock designs, investigate and problem solve modification and component designs to support rolling stock maintenance requirements and ensure rolling stock availability, reliability and cost effectiveness.

This exciting Brisbane based opportunity is permanent full-time and the starting salary range starts at approximately $116k plus Super plus train pass.
Some of the day-to-day responsibilities of this role will include:
- Preparing technical documentation for Queensland Rail's rolling stock fleet including CADD drawings, technical specifications, manufacturing instructions and recommended practices.
- Perform drafting checks of mechanical drawings produced by other drafters.
- Provide specialist advice to rolling stock engineering staff on the practicality of rolling stock designs and manufacturing.
- Assist in the coordination and facilitation of rolling stock projects by checking the output of drafting and design services.
- Investigate new technologies for rolling stock mechanical components and techniques to enhance the safety and reliability of the Queensland Rail rolling stock fleet.
To be considered for this opportunity, applicants will need to demonstrate the following:
- Previous knowledge and experience of passenger rolling stock operation, maintenance and construction will be highly regarded. However, those with other heavy engineering drafting and design experience are encouraged to apply.
- Substantial level of CADD drafting skills. Experience with Autodesk Inventor will be highly regarded. Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation and /or NX will also be well regarded.
- High level of skill in producing rolling stock construction documentation within tight deadlines including technical specifications and CADD drawings.
- Above average written and oral communication and negotiation skills.
