Your new role

As the Desktop Services Manager at Curtin University, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of Desktop Services, including end-user computing management servers and virtual computers, across campus. You will be responsible for managing a team of dedicated professionals, overseeing the upgrade, maintenance, security, and support of the ICT operating environment including desktop management infrastructure systems. You will also have the opportunity to implement innovative strategies to enhance user experience and efficiency.

As the Desktop Services Manager, you will be responsible for

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and management of staff, including recruitment and induction, ensuring the appropriate training of staff, encouraging, and facilitating professional development and leadership skills, and regular review and evaluation of staff performance.
  • Develop and implement desktop service policies, procedures, and standards to ensure reliability and security, with the overall objective of enhancing the client experience.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams to integrate Desktop Services with broader IT infrastructure and initiatives.
  • Provide escalated support for complex desktop-related issues and incidents.
  • Monitor desktop performance and user satisfaction, implementing improvements as needed.
We are looking for someone with:                              
  • Possession of an IT degree, coupled with extensive experience as Manager within the dynamic ICT landscape, or an equivalent blend of relevant experience and educational background.
  • Proven track record showcasing commitment to implementing best practices, driving business process improvements, and adhering to client-focused service management and delivery standards for the provision of efficient and effective services.
  • Proven experience in desktop support or management, preferably within a large and complex organisation.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to not only motivate and inspire others, but to also evolve a team towards continuous improvement.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • In-depth knowledge of desktop operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux), new technologies (Azure) and productivity software.
  • Familiarity with desktop virtualisation, endpoint security, and ITIL best practices is desirable.
As this is a continuing (permanent) role, you will require permanent work rights in Australia to be considered.
