Our progressive Development Assessment and Certification department has a unique opportunity for a highly motivated Development Engineer to join our organisation to grow your career.
With an appetite for growth and a passion for connectivity with our customers you will provide professional advice on a broad range of engineering issues including the determination of development applications, works and subdivision certificates.
You will play a role in assisting to create vibrant, self-sustaining communities that are; accessible, functional, safe and well connected to ensure our residents can enjoy access to local services, facilities and infrastructure.
Your key focus areas are;
- Assess and determine a broad range of applications, involving site inspections, writing reports, providing written/verbal advice to/and negotiating with developers, Councillors and the general public, liaison with Council departments and/or statutory authorities
- Assess and determine works certificates for subdivisions and other civil works, in accordance with Council's Development Control Plans, engineering guidelines, relevant legislation and industry standards and direct external consultants, in preparation of their designs
- Provide technical advice about subdivision and engineering related matters to applicants, consultants and other customers prior to lodgement and during assessment of applications and certificates
- Assess the suitability of technical studies associated with urban development, in particular hydrology, hydraulic, stormwater quality, geometric design, traffic and geotechnical studies
- Process and determine subdivision certificates relating to development applications and ensure compliance with the conditions of consent

LET’S HEAR ABOUT YOU
Our ideal candidate has experience in the assessment or preparation of development applications for subdivisions and civil engineering works and has a desire for ongoing professional development. You will bring a community perspective on development proposals whilst operating within legal frameworks. You are an enthusiastic person and have capability to manage a high-volume workload. You have excellent report writing with an eye for detail. Your interpersonal, influential, negotiation and communication skills will support you to articulate technical information into plain language. You are a future-facing thinker who enjoys engaging with a range of stakeholders to achieve even better outcomes for the community.
You will bring;
- Degree in Civil Engineering or Surveying, or other suitable qualification relevant to the field of expertise
- Knowledge of and experience in the use of Australian Standards, guidelines, manuals, and codes applicable to engineering design and construction
- Experience in the design of urban water quality control facilities, roads and stormwater drainage systems, hydrological and hydraulic computer modelling
- Demonstrated professional written and oral communication skills including sound organisational and computer skills with the ability to effectively interact with a range of customers and other stakeholders to negotiate and resolve conflict
- Knowledge of subdivision/urban planning and design principles and associated assessment of development applications for subdivision and engineering works under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979
