Handball Victoria (HV) is a non-profit, recognised State Sporting Association dedicated to promoting the sports of (Olympic) Handball and Beach Handball in Victoria, Australia. We are committed to fostering diversity, inclusion, and participation in Handball, with a strong future focus on building connections and partnerships within our community.
HV has recently secured funding through the Victorian State Government's Together More Active program to launch a Mixed Handball Competition, as part of our strategic commitment to Participation & Pathways.
About the Role & the Opportunity
HV is seeking a skilled and motivated Development Officer to lead the launch of a new, inclusive participation program - a Mixed Handball Competition!
This role is offered on a volunteer basis, but with a possibility of a gratuity/bonus as agreed by the Board.
The successful candidate will be responsible for guiding the project from planning through to successful execution, working closely with targeted groups, HVs existing member base, affiliated clubs and volunteers.
If you’re passionate about Sports Development, this is an outstanding opportunity to get involved with an Olympic Sport in its infancy! As Development Officer - Mixed Handball Competition, you’ll be directly involved in establishing a new participation format for the sport in Victoria.
Objectives & Outcomes
- Increase overall participation rates in Handball by 20% within the first year of competition
- Enhance visibility and exposure of Handball as a diverse and inclusive sport
- Foster social connections and community engagement through sports participation
- Increase HV’s exposure and expand our networks beyond the current membership base
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning and Execution
- Develop a project plan, including tasks, timelines, and resourcing
- Monitor project progress and ensure tasks are completed on time and within budget
Team Management
- Assemble and lead a competition sub-committee with 2-5 volunteer committee members
- Assign tasks and responsibilities to team members
- Foster collaboration and communication among team members
Stakeholder Communication
- Establish clear communication channels with project stakeholders and the Handball VIC Board
- Communicate monthly project status, progress, and risks to stakeholders and to the Board
- Manage stakeholder expectations and address concerns
Risk Management
- Identify and assess project risks and develop mitigation strategies
- Implement changes to the project scope, schedule, or budget as needed
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain project documentation, including project plans, schedules, and reports
- Generate regular status reports and performance metrics
- Archive project documentation for future reference
