About the role:
The Nova Systems Geospatial (NSG) team leads the development of software, geospatial and cloud-based solutions for our government and defence clients. As a pivotal member of this team, the Cloud Solutions DevOps Engineer will lead the charge in building, supporting and managing diverse secure, high- performing, resilient and efficient cloud-based infrastructures for a variety of applications and workloads. Your primary focus will be on crafting well-architected solutions with an unwavering commitment to security, top-notch performance, resilience and efficiency, all achieved through the strategic use of infrastructure-as-code.
You will be a key part of the NSG consulting capability working closely with our customers and being flexible to their changing needs to deliver valuable outcomes as part of our Agile software development consulting practice. You will share your enthusiasm and knowledge of Cloud technologies and DevOps practices with the team, help to develop junior resources, and contribute to the continuous improvement of best practice technical standards within the Business Unit (BU).

Your responsibilities cover:
- Plan and drive activities to develop organisational systems integration and build capabilities including automation and continuous integration.
- Take technical responsibility across all stages and iterations of software and solution development.
- Drive software construction activities adopting and adapting appropriate software development methods, tools, and techniques.
- Measure and monitor application of project/team standards for software and infrastructure construction.
- Design, code, verify, test, document, amend and refactor complex programs/scripts and integration software services.
- Take a leading role on Cloud technology matters and be hands-on with Cloud deployment and configuration tasks ensuring efficient infrastructure performance across standard operating environments
- Collaborate with security teams to address findings, troubleshoot IT security issues, and promote the use of cloud-based security tools.
- Perform deployments in complex Cloud environments and transition systems and services into production with a focus toward quality.
- Provide engineering advice, develop technical solutions for security audits, and build Virtual Machine Images for deployment.
- Contribute to the sustainment, maintenance, and continual improvement of solutions to ensure they are performing well, effective, efficient, and secure.
- Write, contribute to, and validate technical design documents.
- Review and influence existing solution, design, and system architectures.
- Drive the development of solution architectures for customer specific projects.
- Lead the preparation of technical plans aligned with technical best practice.
- Define design patterns and processes for high availability and disaster recovery.
- Ensure that appropriate tools and methods are available, understood and employed.
We expect from you:
- Minimum Australian Government Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) security clearance, or ability to gain a one.
- Certified in cloud technologies, preferably AWS and be an experienced developer with expertise in cloud platforms and applications.
- Proficiency in infrastructure-as-code, virtualization, Docker, and cloud-based security tools.
- Demonstrated ability to understand dependencies and integration needs in product development.
- In-depth understanding of cloud-based security and infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Experience with cross-platform migration.
- Familiarity with security audit processes and findings.
- Exposure to continuous integration and deployment best practices.
- Knowledge of various cloud-based tools and their application.
- AWS certifications would be well regarded.
- Knowledge of the development of custom software solutions as a developer or manager.
- Experience with geospatial platforms and concepts. (desirable but not necessary)
