We are currently seeking applications for a Director to join the Secretariat for Board of Treasurers at The Department of Treasury & Finance for a temporary contract to 31 May 2025.

Remuneration:  SAES1

The Board of Treasurers (Board) comprises state and territory Treasurers and aims to advance national reform priorities and foster more effective engagement with the Commonwealth. While the Chair of the Board rotates annually, the Board Secretariat is permanently based in Adelaide.

The Board Secretariat supports the Chair and all jurisdictions by ensuring Treasurers have appropriate materials and briefings to consider key issues and progress reforms. The Secretariat’s work facilitates improved cooperation among state and territory Treasurers and the identification of shared positions/priorities to strengthen national advocacy.

About the opportunity:

The Director, Secretariat for Board of Treasurers is accountable to the Executive Director, Budget and Performance Branch and will be responsible for managing and coordinating the Board Secretariat, including;

  • identifying and coordinating policy work on shared state and territory priorities and driving associated reforms (including federal financial relations reform)
  • supporting collaboration among state and territory Treasurers and joint advocacy efforts
  • aligning states and territories’ positions and responses to issues progressed through the Council on Federal Financial Relations (where possible), and
  • strategically considering policy, economic and fiscal issues of national significance and identifying and assessing risks and impacts for states and territories.

The incumbent will be required to build productive, collaborative relationships with the Chair and all state and territory Treasuries.

About you

To be successful you will have demonstrated experience in:

  • policy analysis and problem-solving, underpinned by a strong political acumen, sound judgement and the ability to discreetly handle sensitive issues.
  • strategic thinking and have the ability to navigate ambiguity, including appropriately reflecting policy views from senior officials across all jurisdictions.
  • delivering high quality verbal and written briefings, suitable for consideration by Treasurers.
  • building and maintaining effective cross-government relationships and have the ability to influence those at more senior levels.
  • providing effective leadership by setting and maintaining a culture of high performance, professionalism and innovation.
