About the Role

This is a fixed term SES 1 role

The Director, Commercial Strategy is an integral part of the MTP leadership team, responsible for delivering value, proactive strategic advice and leading Commercial Strategy, policy and planning for major and innovative commercial initiatives that deliver an integrated transport system.

The Director is responsible for:

• Leading planning, strategy and delivery of the MR4 Train Franchise Agreement Amendment Deed as it relates to changes required for the operationalisation of the Metro Tunnel Project; and
• briefing Transport Leadership and DTP governance committees; and
• providing advice in relation to other commercial issues relating to MTP that impact DTP, MR4 or PPP arrangements.

The Director will embed effective, collaborative work practices with other parts of DTP that also have commercial advisory and subject matter expertise necessary to support to the MTP program.

The Director will work with the Executive Director to deliver the pipeline of commercial activities being generated by the Metro Tunnel Project and be a focal point for providing advice on a range of commercial issues, including knowledge of ‘lessons learned' from past procurements relevant to the next wave of major commissioning to come. Direct involvement managing high priority projects and risks, issues and governance activities will be required.

Position Outcomes

As Director of Commercial Strategy, your role encompasses strategic planning and coordination of the Metro Tunnel Project (MTP) Commercial Strategy, focusing on its successful development and execution. You're responsible for providing detailed analysis and progress reports to the executive team, ensuring effective management of project costs, schedules, risks, and budgets.

Working closely with senior leadership, you support the strategic planning process and help achieve departmental priorities.

You lead your team by enhancing capabilities and engagement, fostering a culture that's diverse, safe, and inclusive, and in line with departmental values. Your role involves offering high-quality, strategic, and operational advice to key government figures, aiding transport portfolio objectives, and navigating through complex challenges.

You engage and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, leading collaborative efforts across government sectors, the private sector, and the community to ensure cohesive policy and service delivery. Additionally, you drive organizational and government reforms, assess change initiatives' effectiveness, and ensure compliance with policies, budgetary constraints, and the development of effective workforce plans.

Qualifications and role specific requirements

Desirable

• Relevant tertiary qualification in finance, economics or related commercial discipline.
