Welcome to the core of Australia's food and grocery supply sector. The Australian Food and Grocery Council (AFGC) is a proactive not-for-profit industry association. Their mission is to advocate for the sector, serving as the voice for members whilst offering valuable services. They collaborate with members to shape policy, represent their views to government, and facilitate collective action with some of Australia's largest known grocery brands. The Opportunity
The Director of Finance, Governance & Corporate Services is a pivotal new role for the AFGC. You’ll develop and oversee the implementation of the strategy to enhance financial and operational effectiveness, ensuring robust governance for the AFGC.
Reporting to the CEO and serving as the Company Secretary, the Director will play a key role in engaging with the AFGC Board on finance, governance, and Corporate Services.
Previous experience within a peak body, membership organisation or not-for-profit is highly desirable.
The Role - Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement the financial, risk and governance strategy
- As Company Secretary, advise and lead discussions with the Board, CEO and Executive on financial, risk and governance matters
- Review and lead the AFGC’s business model, finance function and governance framework
- Lead the Secretariat for the following Board sub-committees: Finance and Audit Committee, Governance and Risk Committee,
- Drive effectiveness and efficiency in the AFGC’s business operations
- In collaboration with the CEO and the Executive Team, contribute to the development, execution, and monitoring of AFGC’s strategic and operational plans and budget
- Experience leading the business operations of a small organisation including finance, office administration, IT and HR
- Experience driving governance reviews and improvements as a Company Secretary
- Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities
- Tertiary qualifications in accounting/ finance; AICD or Governance Institute of Australia training
- Strong financial acumen including budgeting and analysis of financial statements
- Uses rigorous logic and methods to solve difficult problems with effective solutions
- Excellent people management skills and ability to lead teams
- Can present the unvarnished truth appropriately and helpfully; keeps confidences; admits mistakes; doesn’t misrepresent themselves for personal gain
- Proven ability to work flexibly in a team environment, establish priorities, independently meet deadlines and deliver operational outcomes
