Director, Internal Audit

Role Outline 

The Director, Internal Audit carries out the duties of the Chief Audit Executive for the Ministry of Health.  The Director, Internal Audit plans and directs the independent, objective assurance and consulting activity of the Internal Audit Branch to help improve the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes within the NSW Ministry of Health and across the wider health system.

You are required to submit a one page covering letter, including a short statement in response to the two targeted questions below:

  1. In your experience, how do you ensure that Internal Audit processes remain adaptable to changes within a regulated organisation? Can you share an example of a situation where you had to adjust audit plans to address emerging risks or challenges?
  2. Communication is key in any leadership role. Can you describe how you typically communicate audit findings and recommendations to non-technical stakeholders? Provide an example of a time when your communication approach facilitated positive change or improvement within your team or the broader organisation.

Essential Requirements

The successful candidate will have:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as business, financial management and/or accounting or health management, or comparable relevant senior level experience in Internal Audit professional practice in an environment that encompasses the range and diversity of functions and systems subject to audit in a complex organisation like NSW Health. 
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the conduct of investigations. 
  • Membership and certification with a relevant professional accounting and or auditing body.

This is an ongoing, full time, Band 1, Public Service senior executive (PSSE) role. An attractive remuneration package within the range of $211,222 to $235,325 per annum (SOORT 2023), will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
