Details: ACT Education Directorate is looking for an experienced and engaged person to provide temporary backfill for the role of Director, Legal Liaison within the Governance Branch. Our ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal, communication and management skills with the ability to work effectively with the wider branch, Directorate, schools, key stakeholders, and the ACT Government Solicitor.

The Legal Liaison team will need your leadership in providing appropriate and effective responses on a range of legal matters including responses to external agency complaints and reviews, family law issues, court orders, personal injury claims and strategies to respond to legal issues arising in the school context.

In addition, this role includes stakeholder engagement that fosters relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.  As such, you will need to maintain and develop appropriate, effective, and productive relationships with these stakeholders.

The successful candidate will:

• Provide high level advice and assistance on Directorate wide strategic policies and matters including administrative law, litigation, and related legal matters.
• Represent the Directorate in a range of forums with respect to legal issues.
• Undertake research and gather data to inform decision making, identify relevant issues and work with legislation and policy documents.
• Drive and implement updates to legal policies, guidance, and guideline documents.
• Provide strategic analysis and input as required and manage complex pieces of work.
• Deal with urgent matters and manage changing priorities as required.
• Implement business systems to improve the capability, business processes and visibility of the Legal Liaison team.

Eligibility/Other requirements: A legal qualification as well as an understanding of, and experience in working with legislation and policy documents is desirable.

Notes:

• This is a temporary position available from 14 June 2024 to 16 July 2024 and 15 August 2024 to 15 November 2024. This would therefore require the successful applicant to be available for these dates.
• This process may be used to fill future leave vacancies.
• An order of merit will be established from this selection process and may be used to fill future identical vacancies over the next 12 months.

• This position is available to ACT Government officers and employees only.
