DTI oversees South Australia's development system to create liveable and sustainable communities that enhance the lives of all South Australians. It helps create an environment that promotes a culture of good design in the built environment and one where people and businesses can thrive.
The Planning and Land Use Services Directorate within DTI manages the planning and land use system for South Australia. This includes planning, building and development, architecture, design and land use to grow our economy and create more vibrant places for our communities.
The Role:
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated building professional to join our dedicated Planning and Land Use Services team to lead building policy and regulation across the South Australian government. This role reports directly to the Executive Director PLUS and will see you responsible for leading the Building Policy and Programs Team.
The Director of Building (the Director) leads the directorate responsible for the regulation and operation of Building Policy for South Australia on behalf of the Minister for Planning (the Minister). The Director undertakes a range of duties aiming to ensure the health and safety, amenity and accessibility, and sustainability of Buildings for all South Australians now and into the future.
About You:
To be successful in this position, you must be able to demonstrate experience across the following key capabilities:

  • Develop and deliver key strategic building policy
  • Represent the SA government on key national committees and boards
  • Understand the legislative and regulatory framework for building in SA
  • Work with industry stakeholders
  • Manage a team of Building professionals
  • Oversee building inspections and compliance in the outback
Desirable Qualification:
Tertiary qualifications in a Building related area.
Special Conditions
Successful applicants may be required to obtain a satisfactory Department of Human Services Criminal History Check or National Police Check prior to employment. A renewal will be required every 3 years.
