As the Director of Planning and Development, you'll be responsible for a wide range of crucial tasks, ensuring the seamless execution of projects and the fulfilment of strategic objectives. Here's what the role entails:

Strategic Planning Leadership: You'll be at the forefront of shaping planning strategies, providing expert guidance to the executive team, and aligning development initiatives with long-term vision.

Team Leadership and Development: Leading the Planning Department, you'll inspire, motivate, and mentor the team of planners, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.

Project Management: From Development Applications to Section 4.55 Modifications, you'll oversee the entire project from initial phase through to approval, ensuring that every aspect of developments meet high standards of quality and sustainability.

Government Relations and Advocacy: Building and maintaining strong relationships with local councils and government agencies, you'll advocate for projects and navigate regulatory processes to ensure successful outcomes.

Legal Compliance and Risk Management: You'll stay abreast of relevant legislation and planning laws, ensuring that projects comply with all regulatory requirements and mitigating any potential risks.

Stakeholder Engagement: Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, including business partners, consultants, and community members, you'll facilitate productive collaborations and ensure that all voices are heard throughout the planning process.

Financial Oversight: Collaborating with the finance team, you'll provide strategic input on budgeting and financial planning, ensuring that projects are financially viable and deliver strong returns on investment.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement: You'll drive a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the Planning Department, identifying opportunities for optimisation and implementing best practices to enhance processes and outcomes.

Public Relations and Community Engagement: Engaging with the public and local communities, you'll communicate the vision for development projects, address concerns, and foster positive relationships to garner support for initiatives.

Representation at Panels and Meetings: You'll represent the organisation at Planning Panels and Council meetings, advocating for projects and ensuring that interests are represented effectively.

Strategic Advice to Leadership: Providing strategic advice to the Managing Director and executive team, you'll play a key role in shaping the overall business strategy and direction.

Furthermore, as part of your responsibilities, you'll be tasked with:

  • Overseeing the review and management of Voluntary Planning Agreements and Development Applications Conditions.
  • Evaluating all Council Section 7.11 and Section 7.12 Contributions to ensure compliance and alignment with project objectives.
  • Offering strategic planning advice and conducting thorough due diligence on land acquisition opportunities to inform decision-making processes.
  • Managing the appointment and coordination of external consultants involved in the preparation of Development Applications and Planning Proposals, ensuring alignment with project timelines and objectives.

To excel in this role, you'll need:

  • A proven track record of leadership in urban Planning and Development, with significant experience in a similar role.
  • In-depth knowledge of Planning laws, regulations, and processes in Australia, with the ability to navigate complex regulatory environments effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships and negotiate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and make data-driven decisions.
  • A passion for innovation and sustainability, with a commitment to creating spaces that are environmentally responsible and socially inclusive.
