• The Director Rural Medical Education (DRME) is the key leadership position in the West Moreton Rural Medical Education Unit. West Moreton Rural Services (Laidley, Gatton, Boonah and Esk) are accredited for training of registrars with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM).

About the role
Spearheading the creation and operation of an innovative dedicated Rural Medical Education and research team across West Moreton rural communities (Gatton, Boonah, Esk and Laidley), the DRME will lead a unit that supports medical staff at all levels in our rural communities. This will include medical students through to registrars and fellows, including hospital and community based general practitioners/rural generalists. This unit takes a macro level approach to supporting the training of Rural Medical staff and students while applying a multi-disciplinary approach to clinical education.
Liaison and co-ordination with state-wide networks, universities, the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine, the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, the PHN and other stakeholders (e.g. Aboriginal Medical Services and local general practices) is critical, as is assisting in the development of contemporary teaching modalities. This role is a key focus in the recruitment, retention, education and training of Rural Medical staff in the West Moreton region.
The West Moreton Rural Medical Education Unit will provide a framework to learning and facilitation of future knowledge retrieval, using educationally sound, effective and efficient strategies for education. The team will support and foster a culture of independent, life-long learning and continuing professional development by tailoring learning to the needs of each doctor, through encouraging interprofessional education and building local peer and professional support networks within each of our rural communities.
