A regional council in central QLD is seeking an experienced Director of Works.
Your new role
As the Director of Works, you'll play a pivotal role in overseeing all aspects of the council's capital and maintenance works programme. From road projects to water and wastewater management, you'll be at the forefront of shaping the region's infrastructure.
You will be responsible for:
Strategic Planning and Advice:
- Provide high-quality, independent advice to our councillors and Mayor, guided by our CEO. Your insights will drive long-term planning decisions.
- Lead and manage infrastructure reviews, applying expert analysis and benchmarking. Your evidence-based recommendations will ensure effective problem resolution and risk mitigation.
Executive-Level Decision Support:
- Develop robust reports, advice, and recommendations related to works and infrastructure. These will inform whole-of-council decision-making.
- Prepare concise reports, briefs, and correspondence to address organisational or council requests.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Cultivate positive relationships with key stakeholders. Their input will be crucial in identifying and developing infrastructure solutions.
- Advise on suitable development procurement and delivery mechanisms for individual projects.
Project Monitoring:
- Keep a close eye on project progress, ensuring milestones and performance indicators are met within budget and time constraints.
- Investigate and negotiate change proposals with relevant stakeholders.
What you'll need to succeed
To excel in this role, you'll need:
- A tertiary qualification in Civil recognised by Engineers Australia.
- In-depth knowledge of major infrastructure systems i.e. road infrastructure, waste & wastewater systems.
- Demonstrated expertise in strategic advice development for long-term strategies and policy reforms.
- Proven leadership in managing multidisciplinary teams and contractors.
- Extensive experience in project managing capital works programs and budgets.
