Primary Objectives:
- Working closely with the Disaster and Community Resilience Manager to develop, inform, and support implementation of Council’s disaster resilience planning functions, with a focus on planning and preparedness.
- Research and develop disaster management strategies, operational plans, and tools to increase disaster resilience in the Cairns LGA.
- Provide specialist technical skills, advice, and coordination to deliver improved disaster hazard and risk reduction capabilities, that includes specific mitigation and adaptation strategies and systems.
- Provide specialist advice and developmental support to strengthen response and recovery arrangements.
- Support Council to comply with its disaster management obligations under the QDMA and the Queensland Disaster Management Act 2003 and associated regulations, including incident management deployment and/or acting as Local Disaster Coordinator as required.
Our Ideal Candidate:
- Ability to critically assess existing strategies and develop innovative solutions for disaster management and resilience.
- Proficiency in interpreting and applying complex data, including technical and geospatial information, to inform decision-making.
- Knowledge and experience in disaster management strategies, hazard and risk reduction, and operational planning.
- Familiarity with the Queensland Disaster Management Act 2003 and associated regulations.
- Proven ability to build and coordinate effective engagement processes, networks, and partnerships.
