Corporate Services teams at Metro are responsible for providing essential support services that enable the business to function efficiently and effectively. From Safety and People, Marketing and Communication, to Finance and Legal, and IT. Our Corporate Services teams work collaboratively to ensure that the business operates smoothly and as one team.
About the role
As a key member of the Legal & Compliance team, the Disputes Lawyer will support Metro's strategic direction by ensuring the business operates within the Corporate Governance framework and will provide legal advice on all matters relating to Metro and instruct and receive advice from external lawyers in appropriate matters.
Provide legal advice on:
- Pre-litigation and litigation, projects and commercial contract work.
- Workplace relations and health and safety.
- Contract management to Metro managers and staff, including the interpretation of contracts, contract variations and claims, extensions of time and insurance, warranty and defect issues.
- Discharging obligations under the Franchise arrangements, including liaising with the Department of Planning & Transport on contracts critical to rail operations
You are a focused individual who has:
- At least five years' post-qualification experience as a Solicitor (including private practice experience), having a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of a wide range of complex legal matters including workplace relations and health and safety.
- Ability to deal with political and public sector issues and constraints of a sensitive nature.
- High-level interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to undertake investigative research to obtain, clarify and validate information that may require explanation and interpretation.
- A high level of initiative and demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment in advising senior managers and others on sensitive issues.
- Tertiary Qualifications comprising a Bachelor of Laws and a current Practicing Certificate in Victoria (without conditions) are essential.
