Job description

About RAQ
Relationships Australia Queensland (RAQ) is a leading not-for-profit organisation committed to enhancing the lives of individuals, families, and communities. RAQ offers a wide range of professional and confidential services aimed at fostering healthy relationships and overall wellbeing. The mission is to support people through life’s challenges, building stronger, more resilient communities across Queensland.

The Opportunity
OnTalent is partnering with RAQ to introduce an exciting new role within the organisation. The Domestic and Family Violence Specialist will provide crisis intervention and early intervention when co-responding to Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) incidents with the Queensland Police Service (QPS). This part-time, 2-year contract position is designed to address immediate client crisis and safety needs, conduct risk assessments, and offer short-term follow-up, ensuring a holistic response to DFV incidents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Crisis and Early Intervention:
    • Participate in a mobilised response with QPS to DFV incidents in the community.
    • Provide culturally appropriate and trauma-informed intake with clients during DFV incidents and short-term follow-up.
    • Conduct immediate safety planning and crisis interventions to support the needs of victim-survivors and persons using violence, ensuring children's safety.
    • Utilise approved DFV assessment protocols to identify those most in need of protection.
    • Provide brief DFV counselling, early intervention, and case management to address and support clients' broader needs.
    • Offer referrals to specialist services to help clients achieve safety and support goals.
    • Provide information, resources, and advocacy to enable informed decision-making for clients' wellbeing and safety.

  • Coordinated Responses:
    • Collaborate with local Community Coordinated Response networks, involving QPS, local magistrates, and non-government organisations.
    • Assist QPS in identifying the person most in need of protection and provide specialist advice for appropriate legal actions.
    • Coordinate integrated service responses with government and non-government agencies to enhance client safety and outcomes.
    • Engage in collaborative debriefing and reflective practice with QPS to improve DFV incident responses.
    • Contribute to the High Risk Teams' multi-agency response, providing information and participating in meetings to support high-risk victims.

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in a Human Services-related field and/or relevant industry experience.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (or eligibility to apply).

Experience
  • Experience providing advocacy, information, referral, and/or counselling to individuals affected by DFV.
  • Experience in delivering Men’s Behaviour Change programs.
  • Experience working in crisis intervention.

How to Apply
If you are a dedicated professional looking to make a real difference in the lives of those affected by DFV, OnTalent and RAQ want to hear from you! Please submit your resume and a cover letter outlining your suitability for the position.

For confidential inquiries about this role, please contact Ashleigh McMillan or Taylah Knight on 07 3305 5***.

RAQ and OnTalent are committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce. Applications from all backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, are welcome.
