As one of the key pillars of the Oreana group, the Oreana business specialises in the design, construction, and delivery of a wide range of residential and commercial projects including medium density town living projects, individual new home builds, retail and childcare developments throughout Melbourne’s inner city and growth corridors.
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Design and Drafting Manager, the Draftsperson’s role is responsible for producing full documented sets of detailed working drawings for single & double story detached dwellings ready for building permit and construction issue.
To achieve this the Draftsperson must work closely with our sales referrers, pre-construction admin, estimating teams and external consultants including by not limited to structural engineers, electrical engineers, building surveyors.
Within this role the Draftsperson must demonstrate a knowledge and understand of the implementation of Rescode, small lot housing code, construction methodology, developer guidelines and local planning regulations. Working with contract inclusions and specification and able to apply the above knowledge accurately and efficiently to a set of working drawings.
Responsibilities
The delivery of detailed working drawings, preliminary drawing & siting sketches in a timely and accurate manner. To provide help to different areas within the team. To coordinate with external consultants to supply all relevant and required documents and to work with pre-construction administrators to attain building permits and progress jobs to site.
Delivery
- Ensure effective communication and project standards coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
- Project work, modelling detailing, preparation of project documentation suitable for relevant stakeholder requirements, i.e. Building Certification, Client approval, Production, Town Planning, Sub-division, and infrastructure authorities.
- Manage and distribute coordinated digital documents.
- Communicate with external stakeholders, consultants, and subcontractors.
- Obtain permits & approvals from the appropriate authorities within allocated timeframes.
- Project administration processes for submittals, design and construction models, drawings, and schedules
- Ensure designs and finished work comply with specifications, building codes/regulations and contract requirements are met.
- Maintaining company drafting standards on all drawings
- Managing multiple projects at the one time.
Customer Service
- Ensure that customers are treated with respect and their queries or concerns are addressed with a sense of urgency and professionalism.
- Develop strong working relationships with our partners and clientele to greater influence your control over the projects.
- Develop a strong working relationship with key project contacts. E.g., Building Surveyor, Councils, Consultants.
Safe Working Practice
- Carrying out work in a safe working manner and maintain a safe working environment at all times.
- Report any workplace hazards or practices promptly for corrective action or improvement.
- Immediately report instances of injury or “near” injury to management.
- Comply with company and legislative reporting on workplace injury.
- Ensure the construction team and OH&S coordinator is supported with all OHS&E safety documentation required to undertake construction works.

About you:
To be successful in the role you will have the following attributes:
- Completion of a degree or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training.
- 5+ years of industry experience
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously with little management oversight.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders.
- Knowledge of ArchiCAD,
- Knowledge of Res Codes, Building Codes and Standards
- A sound knowledge of building construction
- High attention to detail.
- Good time management skills
