The FutureGEN Program

Georges River Council's FutureGEN Cadetship Program provides under graduates, the opportunity to develop professional skills, undertake tailored learning and development activities, and receive mentoring from senior staff. At Council we aim to provide you with invaluable experience, where you will also be making a difference to improve the quality of life of our diverse community. With our support, you will work on important community projects from day one, with real responsibilities and real outcomes.

As part of our entry level talent program, you will have an opportunity to engage in networking events which are focused on personal and professional development with other FutureGEN program members across Council.

The Role

The Economic Development function sits in the City Futures team and delivers a diverse and dynamic portfolio. The Economic Development Team seeks to enhance and elevate the services of Council through developing and delivering projects including but not limited to, advocacy and investment attraction campaigns, local business training/support programs, night-time economy programming, smart city projects and city marketing activities.

The Economic Development cadet will be provided with work-based training at Council, whilst being required to study a relevant undergraduate degree at a university. This role will gain experience in the multifaceted Economic Development requirements within local government whilst also providing support to the Economic Development function within the City Futures team. The position will support the conceptualisation, development and engagement activities of the Georges River Economic Development Strategy.

About the opportunity and what we can offer you

  • Temporary, Part-time - minimum 14 hours per week and up to 21 hours per week
  • Salary from $52,758.74 - $60,256.63 per annum pro rata plus 11% superannuation

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply, you must be enrolled in a relevant university undergraduate degree at the time of commencement. You will need to be enrolled in the degree for the year of the cadetship.

Qualifications, Certificates & Licences

  • Enrolled in a degree in Economics, Commerce, Public Policy, Business / Business Administration or a related degree for the year of the cadetship.

Essential

  • Communication skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with staff and the community.
  • Teamwork. Demonstrated ability to work in a united, collaborative environment whilst consistently displaying integrity, accountability, respect and honesty.
  • Problem solving. Willingness to embrace problem solving opportunities with lateral and creative thinking skills.
  • Organisation skills. Demonstrated ability to set work priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Inclusivity. Willingness to value diversity of thought and support equity in the workplace.

Desirable

  • Georges River Local. Knowledge of local area having either lived, studied or worked in the Georges River LGA.
