Location Profile

Moomba Park Primary School No. 4876 has a proud history of serving the local community since 1961. At Moomba Park we are fortunate to have an extremely positive parent community who work in partnership with the school to support student learning through its core values-Learning, Positive Attitude, Respect, Caring, Support and Resilience. The school community is very diverse. Families come from many cultures and varying socio-economic backgrounds. This blend is one of our great assets. As a community, we continuously work together to improve the learning of all students by targeting the diverse academic and social needs. As our moto states, “Our Best Always”

The core purpose of Moomba Park Primary School as defined in the Strategic Plan is to provide an inclusive, rigorous learning environment that challenges and engages young people to grow as life long and passionate learners. The school seeks to develop motivated, creative and independent learners who demonstrate strong social values and whose leadership, resilience and self-esteem is evident when interacting with the community.

The school provides a comprehensive curriculum with a strong focus on Literacy and Numeracy. These  practices derive from Literacy CAFE Teaching Practices, The Big 6, Writers' Notebook, Six + One Writing Traits, a school wide consistent approach to the teaching of Numeracy and Investigations-based on the Kathy Walker Learning Approach.  A comprehensive welfare program is values based, supported by Rights and Responsibilities and Restorative Practices. An integrated classroom curriculum program, taught through an Inquiry model, addresses the Learning Areas of Humanities, Technology, and Health. Science is taught as a stand-alone subject and delivered sequentially through the e5 Instructional Model. These domains are also cross referenced with the literacy program to ensure sufficient time is allocated to address the content. The teaching and learning at Moomba Park is supported by evidence-based practice that has been developed by respected educators and researchers.

Specialist teachers provide instruction in Physical Education which includes a site based swimming program, Italian/Visual Arts (Content and Language Integrated Learning model), STEAM and Music. The school is an active participant in district sport competitions as well as providing opportunities for students to participate in band, choir, local community events as well as state-wide events. Moomba Park has a well-structured camping program. This begins with an onsite extended day for Foundation students, an onsite overnight sleepover for Year 1-2 students, an offsite camp experience for Year 3-4 and 5-6 students.

Digital technologies are used in all classrooms and integrated across all subject areas. The school provides students with the use of Interactive Whiteboards, Notebook computers, IPads and other recording devices to support teaching and learning.

The Capabilities that address Critical and Creative Thinking, Ethical, Intercultural and Personal and Social learning are embedded across the whole curriculum.

The school has a Leadership Team, School Improvement Team, Program Teams Visible Wellbeing, STEAM/Inquiry and Environment), Professional Learning Teams and Professional Learning Communities.  All teams focus on Program Development and Planning, Pedagogical Practice, Differentiation, Assessment and Reporting and Personalised learning Approaches. Through our teams there is a continual evaluation and refinement of practice, resulting in the continual improvement of student outcomes.

The school employs two Learning Specialists who support practice and planning driven by data.

Professional Learning Teams ensure scope and sequences and curriculum delivery is monitored within. These teaching and learning teams are responsible for core curriculum development and teaching in Literacy, Numeracy Integrated Studies, Science, ICT and the Specialist subject areas. Targeted teaching based on student assessment outcomes determines this.

The school has an equivalent of 17 fulltime Teachers, Principal Class staff, 5 Education Support Staff (including 0.5 MEA), numerous Behavioural Therapists and 2 Office Administration Staff.

Moomba Park Primary School’s multi-age Room 8 Classroom implements a teaching approach that builds on individual student’s strengths and skills.  Teaching and learning programs centre upon developing students’ interpersonal/personal skills, communication skills, executive functioning and independence. At MPPS, we have embedded the evidence-based practice of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) as the central pedagogy to support student progress. Role

Attendance required Monday to Friday.

An education support class position at this range will perform tasks that are carried out in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice, and school policy under supervision and direction. This may include coordination of other education support class staff within the work area or educational program.

An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include duties of a teacher as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students can be required individually or in groups up to 4 in controlled circumstances and where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.

Certification and/or qualifications of up to three years can be required at this level (noting that Registered Nurse is not included at this level, the first level for which is Level 1 range 3).

A role at this range may include:

  • Specific support tasks to achieve outcomes. Typically, this will involve accountability for a single function, (e.g. ensuring data is properly maintained) or the co-ordination of a work area under the direction of the principal or a manager.
  • Assisting teachers, within an educational program, by undertaking specific support tasks or the coordination of the support function.
  • Supervised health and wellbeing support tasks, medical intervention support tasks, or other specialised student/teacher support roles (e.g. enrolled nurses performing the role as described in schedule 3). These roles require specific qualifications and/or training, including roles where further training must be undertaken from time to time. The role is for a specific purpose, for which there will be direct accountability as opposed to support roles that are carried out by a range of staff performing routine tasks under direction.
  • Technical tasks that require a sound knowledge of basic technical and/or scientific principles that are used to develop and adapt work methods and make judgements where there are clear guidelines and limited options. Routine technical support in libraries, science, and information technology would be typical examples.

An education support class position at this range commencing at the base will initially be limited to undertaking routine tasks that are carried out under close supervision and direction. Work that carries some degree of independence will generally involve a limited number of tasks performed on a regular basis where priorities are clear, procedures are well established, and direction is readily available. Subject to any specific qualification and/or training requirement, an education support class employee employed in this range may be progressively required to undertake coordination, specialised student/teacher support tasks, or technical tasks as experience in the role is gained.
