We are looking for an Editor to join our Young Readers team in a 12-month contract position in our Sydney or Melbourne office. The successful candidate will work closely with authors, illustrators, designers, and the broader Penguin Random House children's team to edit and manage projects within the children's and young adult (YA) book genre. This role requires strong editing and project management skills, attention to detail, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for children's and YA literature.
Responsibilities:
- Edit and proofread manuscripts, ensuring high-quality content, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Collaborate with authors, illustrators, and designers to develop and refine book concepts.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines and budgets.
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure seamless workflow and timely publication.
- Provide constructive feedback and guidance to authors to enhance the overall quality of manuscripts.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Proven experience in an editorial role, preferably within a publishing house.
- Excellent editing and proofreading skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Word and industry-standard software for editing and project management.
- Strong project management abilities, including the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines and budgets.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Team player with the ability to collaborate effectively with authors, illustrators, and internal teams.
- Passion for and knowledge of children's and YA literature.
- Flexibility, creativity, and a desire to innovate in the publishing industry.
