A bit about the role
This role is a fantastic opportunity for a creative and innovative individual who loves turning ideas into great events and programs for the community. The Education and Youth Librarian role involves designing and delivering programming for children and young people to support engagement with reading, informal learning opportunities, volunteering, and social connection. Current programs delivered by the Education and Youth Team cover the areas of tabletop and electronic gaming, chess, robotics, book clubs, reading support, volunteering, study support, and job support.
A key focus of the Education and Youth Librarian position involves consulting with children and young people to ensure their needs and interests are reflected in the programs and services offered, as well as building and maintaining partnerships with internal council partners, local schools, and community organisations.
This role is also responsible for contributing to the management of the library’s Young Adult (YA) collections, which include graphic novels, YA Fiction, and study, gaming and education resources for secondary students. The role also covers promoting the library’s collections via a range of channels, including in-branch displays and the creation of social media content.
In addition to the duties above, you will be rostered for regular customer service shifts and work on a variety of projects at your home library branch.
This role is primarily based at the Truganina Community Centre, however you may be required to work from other locations.
This position requires working a Saturday morning customer service shift once every six weeks. Some events will require occasional evening or weekend work and a willingness to vary your schedule from time-to-time is essential.

What you’ll bring
- Demonstrated track record developing innovative programming for young people and/or children
- Experience managing collections, or familiarity with Young Adult (YA) Literature and/or educational resources for secondary students
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to form partnerships and work effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Strong project management skills
- A bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in Librarianship/Information Management, Education or another relevant field
- A current Victorian Working with Children Check
