The Independent Schools of Tasmania (IST) is an association of non-government schools. It co-ordinates views of member schools in submissions to government and other bodies. It advises and supports member schools at their request. The Association also administers Federal and State Program funding for independent schools within the state.
The Association comprises of 34 independent schools (45 campuses) and is affiliated to the Independent Schools Australia (ISA).
About the role
Independent Schools Tasmania (IST) is seeking the services of a talented individual with a strong curriculum background to work with Independent Schools in Northern and North West Tasmania to support them with the implementation of Version 9.0 of the Australian Curriculum and the Senior Secondary Curriculum. The Education Consultant will work with schools within the context of revised version 9.0 of the Australian Curriculum and support schools to fulfil their registration requirements.
Background
The Education Consultant is expected to source, organise and deliver professional learning to schools to address a range of educational issues associated with the implementation of Version 9.0 of the Australian Curriculum and Senior Secondary courses.
As a part of supporting schools, they will collaborate on joint projects with other IST consultants or other educational sectors and organisations. The ability to form positive working relationships with groups across different backgrounds is essential.

Key responsibilities:
Applicants should be able to work with teachers in Independent Schools from a range of backgrounds, experience and philosophies. Responsibilities associated with the position of Education Consultant would include, but are not limited to, the following undertakings:
· Work independently and collaboratively with all IST consultants on curriculum, pastoral care and related issues.
· Coordinate and conduct professional learning and teacher support workshops to assist with the delivery of teaching/learning programs and use of the achievement standards and learning progressions
· Provide In‐school support for teachers to develop teaching programs, assessment tasks and rubrics and other teaching resources for Version 9.0 of the Australian Curriculum
· Support teachers through review, advice and access to resources available from ACARA and other sources in implementing the Australian Curriculum and TASC and VET courses
· Develop and foster networks of teachers involved in implementing the Australian Curriculum and TASC courses
· Liaise and network with cross-sectoral representatives where relevant
· Liaise with other IST consultants to provide coordinated school support across all phases of learning
· Represent IST on relevant Government, Education Stakeholder committees and working groups.
Selection Criteria
· Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and work independently.
· Sound understanding of planning and assessment in the context of the Australian Curriculum.
· Ability to deliver and facilitate professional learning on the Australian Curriculum across the Years P-10.
· Strong understanding of the current TASC and VET courses and graduation requirements and career pathways.
· Strong understanding of best practice teaching pedagogies.
· Ability to plan, deliver and facilitate professional learning relating to pedagogical practices.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills.
· Computer literacy including competent user of mobile technologies.
Essential Requirements
· Tertiary qualifications in education.
· Current drivers’ licence and own car.
· Working with Vulnerable People Check
· Eligible for Tasmanian Teacher Registration
