Job description

In Tasmania, NECA Education & Careers is the single largest employer of Electrical Apprentices, we service a fifth of the overall electrical apprentices across Tasmania and have an outstanding completion rate, which means that when you enter into an apprenticeship with NECA E&C your chances of becoming an A grade electrician is super high.

This doesn’t happen by chance.

The Role

At NECA E&C we know that the more support mechanisms we have that surround an apprentice, the more likely they are to complete their apprenticeship - happy and healthy.

So how do we achieve that?

We have Industry Consultants, Mentors, who work in the background of every apprentice lifecycle tracking progress, checking exposure, discussing situations, assisting with Trade School, monitoring the Apprentices’ health, and well being and this person is the driving force of our success.

At NECA E&C our number one value is that “Safety is our choice”.  We make a choice each and every day to keep ourselves safe, keep our colleagues safe, and to do everything in our power to encourage a Safety Mindset in all of our Apprentices and Trainees across the business.

In a dynamic and evolving environment, we look to improve and expand with industry and its ever-growing technologies allowing us to perform both face to face and online check ins with our cohorts.

A week in the life of an Industry Consultant would include the following:

  • Visiting the Apprentice and Host Partner on site for our face to face site visits
  • Coordinating and running pre-employment assessments
  • Recruitment and Induction of suitable apprentices
  • Liaising with Host Partners about their upcoming workforce needs
  • Checking Apprentice profiling and trade school outcomes
  • Completing pre-placement checks
  • Advertising
  • Managing the life cycle of a caseload of Apprentices across their 4 years
  • Database management & administration

Position Selection Criteria

If you have supervised Apprentices previously either in your own business or on a worksite, or have coached/mentored sports teams or the like, this could be a great next progression for you.

We are keen on you to have the following:

  • A Grade Electrical Licence (Required to check profiling)
  • Working with Vulnerable People check (Required)
  • Experience and exposure to a range of different electrical work sites
  • A basic understanding of the apprenticeship model and all of its parts
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • An open, learning and agile mindset

Your ability to speak to a range of people across multiple work sites, from TAFE and other industry bodies, will feature well within this role. Your natural ability to communicate well, both written and verbally, will be your most useful skill.

The will to learn the ropes, enjoy the process, and create an open learning and trusting environment with your apprentices will see you enjoy every day in this rewarding position.

Looking for an immediate start in our Hobart office, we look forward to receiving your application.

Apply now and get your application underway.
