Currently, there are around 4.3 million Australians with a disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 600,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.

A new role awaits

The Market Stewardship Branch is seeking a passionate and motivated EL1 Assistant Director to join their team.

Our thriving branch focuses on establishing and testing policy frameworks to support the development and transition of difficult markets. We work in strong partnership with key stakeholders to support growth and build our market placement. At times this may include responding to thin markets in remote and very remote areas. The branch monitors the disability support market and intervenes when appropriate to ensure stability for our participants.

Where you can add value

In this leadership role, you should possess expert and influential communication skills to engage with a range of diverse stakeholders, including the capability to build strong relationships with First Nations and remote communities. You will be able to lead a team in project activities, including planning, scheduling, monitoring, and managing any risks associated with that project. You will be able to monitor and evaluate the impact of disability support markets and identify areas of improvement to enable effective market development.

Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Leading co-design activities with First Nation's remote communities to test and develop complex initiatives which provide improved outcomes for people with disability.
  • Working with relevant Agency stakeholders to design and embed operational models for commissioning NDIS supports for participants.
  • Travelling into remote communities regularly to establish trust and engagement.
  • Ensuring project outcomes are measurable and align with the market development framework and where possible shared decision-making methodologies and the development of the community-controlled sector.

The ideal candidate should understand cultural sensitivity and proficiency in working a cross-cultural market. You will possess strong leadership skills, be able to influence and negotiate on behalf of the branch with multiple stakeholders. You should be passionate about seeking continuous improvement in the delivery of services to First Nations people through analysis and feedback.
This role will draw on candidates’ excellent communication skills, sound judgement skills, and demonstrated ability to lead a high performing team.

While this role is ideally performed from WA - Perth, SA - Adelaide or NT - Darwin, remote working arrangements may be considered. We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity, however non-ongoing roles up to 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 2 years may be offered.

Successful candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police History check, Worker Screening check and/or Working with Children Check (where required) and provide evidence of Australian Citizenship.
