Markets Group are seeking Assistant Directors to work across the Market Conduct and Digital Division, Financial System Division and the Competition Taskforce Division. Positions are available in the Treasury's Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney offices.These areas offer the opportunity to advise on key Government priorities, including:
- ways to improve business laws and corporate conduct, including matters related to consumer protection, corporate transparency, insolvency and financial reporting
- the impact of data and digital initiatives and developments, such as Artificial Intelligence, the Consumer Data Right and Digital ID
- the operation of Australia's financial system, including the regulation of Australia's capital markets, banking sector and payments and digital assets
- reforming Australia's competition policy frameworks, including implementing reforms to Australia's merger laws and working with states and territories to revitalise National Competition Policy.
- lead a team to advise Government on delivery of its policy priorities and commitments
- lead a team to identify and advise Ministers on the effectiveness of existing policy settings and opportunities for improvement
- brief ministers and senior officials, provide input on speeches, and engage with parliamentary processes
- develop and implement strategic direction for your unit, which appropriately balances competing priorities
- build team capability through coaching, providing performance feedback and encouraging career development
- engage productively with government agencies and external stakeholders, including across the private sector and in academia
- represent Treasury at whole of government and/or industry meetings.
- think critically: assess the implications of economic and policy developments and develop cogent insights as a basis for policy advice
- engage effectively: build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, advocacy groups and corporations
- navigate strategic context: understand the policy landscape, identify opportunities and show good judgement
- deliver results: deliver timely and high-quality outcomes that influence policy makers and effectively implement the Government's decisions
- show leadership: be proactive, innovative and inclusive.
- Tertiary qualification(s) in a relevant field, including, but not limited to, economics, law, commerce, finance, and public policy.
- Ideally, we are looking for candidates with four to five years' experience.
- Experience in policy development and analysis, legislative development or in regulatory work is highly desirable.
- Some experience in one or more of the following will also be very well regarded:
- Financial markets and payment systems
- Corporations, competition or consumer law
- Financial advice regulation and standards.
